Joseph grew up in Greenville SC and took an interesting collegiate path of studying both Respiratory Therapy and Accounting. After finishing these degrees in 1989, Joseph hit the road as a traveling respiratory therapy therapist. Those were great years with assignments in MN, OH, LA, CT, PA and MD.

After traveling, Joe settled into a full-time job in Maryland. He continued to receive word of mouth referrals for tax returns. In 2001, he moved to Norfolk Nebraska, a small town in Nebraska and the childhood home of the famous late-night comedian, Johnny Carson. In 2002, Joseph decided to create a website and take TravelTax national. Why a small town in the Midwest? …. Few square miles of everything one would need living in a big city and a great place to start a business.

In 2018, Joseph moved TravelTax back to his hometown in Greenville, SC, where it remains today. If you are traveling through town, call ahead and we can take you to lunch!

Travel is still a big part of his life, but now it is for seminars and consulting contracts with healthcare staffing firms - reviewing their reimbursement policies and giving recruiters in-services so they understand the tax issues better. He has completed his goal of visiting all 50 states and has a favorite quote about travel that is even more amazing when you consider when it was written:

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness…

Joe is driven. His Myers-Briggs personality profile is INTJ, aka “the mastermind,” and it fits him. Knowledge is to be constantly gained, categorized, and utilized. When others read articles about the latest important tax court case, Joe has read the actual case itself. For that matter, he may have been the one that wrote the article that everyone else reads. He writes for magazines and blogs, posts on numerous tax forums, and answers dozens of emails every day, in between client appointments.
