Writing Off Your RV

Living in an RV as a multistate worker is one of the best ways to travel, but when it comes to per diems, expenses, and tax homes, having a home on wheels can be tricky. Can you even write off the RV itself? Let’s find out.

Should you abandon everything and travel the country in an RV as an itinerant traveler?

PROS:

  • no need to find lodging

  • can still receive tax-free per diems IF you can justify extra expenses like utilities, pad rental

CONS:

  • more difficult in cold/bad weather

  • difficult to justify expenses that would qualify you for tax-free per diems

  • less deductibles - cannot write off RV itself!
