Licensed to Mislead: How a Chinese Family's Dreams of a New Life in Canada Were Crushed by Fraudulence
They were promised jobs. They were promised permanent status. They were promised a dream would come true. Instead, $40,000 later, TingTing Biao and her family were forced to leave Canada and return to China with no hope and no savings left.
This is the price Biao unknowingly paid for seeking the services of Jun Su and June HR Solutions, a seemingly credible immigration service in Saskatoon. Biao found out too late that Su did not have a license to practice immigration consulting.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions about the goal of this post, let me clarify that both my first and current wives are immigrants. Our tax practice helps a LOT of immigrants and new arrivals to the US and Canada. We make sure their taxes are not just done but done right.
There’s a sad pattern I see often in our practice: New clients will bring us previous returns prepared by individuals of the same ethnicity, and we find that those preparers used the clients’ fear and lack of knowledge about tax laws as a means of exploitation. The promise of large refunds using fictitious credits or deductions comes back to haunt these new arrivals. Additionally, the same people create fear that established citizens will take advantage of them and that fellow countrymen are the only ones that can do it right.
There is nothing to be gained from stripping people of their opportunity to start anew across any border. We’re here to make seizing that opportunity just a bit easier.
