Be Prepared for a Late Filing Season Says the IRS

The Acting IRS Commissioner recently suggested that the filing season in 2026 will begin later than usual to implement the recent tax legislation in the One big Beautiful Bill. Typically, the IRS opens the electronic filing system for individual returns in late January, but Commissioner Long stated that it may be as late as February 16. This could mean an extended deadline similar to what occurred during the COVID pandemic.
